VISIT THE INDIANA HISTORY CENTER :: what to see | ||||||||||
The Indiana History Center is located in the Indianapolis canal cultural district where visitors can enjoy many attractions nearby in White River State Park and participate in guided walking tours of this 1.5-mile long recreational corridor. There is no cost to visit the Indiana History Center; membership is not required. However, some programs do require a fee and IHS members receive discounts on programs and special events. When you plan your visit to the Indiana History Center, make sure you see all the wonderful things we have to offer. The Exhibitions at the Indiana History Center are fascinating and informative. We have two main gallery spaces, the Rapp Family Gallery and the Lacy Gallery. This 30,000-square-foot research library houses the Society's priceless collection of rare books, letters, diaries, business records, maps, architectural drawings, paintings, photographs, and other research material calculated to shed light on the history of Indiana and the Old Northwest. A tremendous resource (open to the public!) for serious scholars and history buffs alike. Go to the library's page to research online.

Enjoy lunch in our cafe situated alongside the beautifully renovated historic Central Canal while you view an exhibit exploring ragtime, jazz and swing in Indiana. Click here for more information. This stunning entryway to the Society features a large-screen TV and seating for viewing informative videotapes. Marquees display helpful information for visitors. Be sure to stop by the Welcome Center if you have a question or want information about upcoming exhibitions, programs, membership, or volunteer opportunities. Celebrate one of Indiana's greatest composers in this intimate area. Featuring a grand piano and Wurlitzer jukebox that plays songs from a variety of Indiana artists, this room is a must see for music lovers. Documentaries on Indiana history are shown weekly in this beautiful setting. |
