Today in Indiana History

July 5 , 2008

On this day in 1816 Brookville’s first post office opened. At the time, Brookville was one of the most important towns in the state--or what was to become a state in December that year. The town was home to several prominent men, including three future Indiana governors, several state supreme court justices, two U.S. senators, and several U.S. representatives.
